This past weekend I wasn’t able to go visit my BFF as we had planned because she came down with a horrible case of the flu. While I was (and still am) super bummed about our cancelled plans, I was able to put my budgeted money from the trip and my weekend off from my PT job to good use. Rather than wasting away in front of the TV, I decided to get a head start on one of my 2015 goals, making over my home office.

When I decided to work on my home office over the weekend, I figured it would be a nice weekend-long project. I thought I’d get started at a decent time Saturday morning, work on it all day and finish up on Sunday. Boy was I wrong!

Friday I took off 2 hours early from work so my parents and I could make a quick trip to get some supplies and paint for my project. We also had to take a few things to my brother at college in the same town, so it was nice to see him and have a family dinner. My parents very generously offered to drive for this trip and they also paid for dinner. I offered to give them some money for gas and/or food, but they refused.

After I got all the paint and supplies on Friday, I had spent a grand total of $151.25. Only $1.25 over my budget of $150. I was pretty impressed with that personally!

Saturday morning I was up and ready to go bright and early, but alas that just didn’t work out as planned. Since I bought my house directly from the contractor that “flipped” it, he hadn’t painted any of the rooms before I moved in. This means whenever I’ve gotten ready and painted any rooms in the house I’ve had to paint the ceiling, trim, doors, and the walls. These extra steps take way longer than you’d imagine for the amount of space you are painting, plus you have to make sure everything (trim and ceiling) is dry before you can really get started on painting the walls.

Due to these delays, I didn’t get very far on Saturday.

Sunday morning I was able to get a much earlier start, but it still seemed like progress was slow. I knew before I even started on Sunday that there was no way I was going to be done with this painting project by the end of the day, so I decided to take Monday off from my FT job so I could finish up the project.

I also had to go get a few more supplies on Sunday, bringing my total for the project up to $164.04.

Monday was a very productive day and I got sooo close to being done painting. Because my home office is peacock themed, I decided to do an additional designย the walls with a beautiful metallic gold glaze. The only thing I didn’t get done was putting the glaze on the two smallest walls, which are painted cream. Unfortunately, I won’t be able to work on putting this final touch on the room until this weekend. But you can bet that as soon as I can, I’ll be putting all of my furniture and belongings back into the room. Having them sitting all over my living room is really stressing me out!

I can’t wait to share final photos with you after I get everything put back in the room, but in the meantime here are a few pictures of the process so far.

The teal and purple corner all finished!

I’m still hoping to be able to take back one “specialty texture” paint roller for a refund of around $11.50. If I am able to take it back, I’ll end up right around my $150 budget.
