In a winter slump? Here's a great way to tackle your winter slump and keep it from beating you!

Guys I’ve been in kind of a slump lately. While I’ve still been doing pretty good at prioritizing both my financial and health goals for 2016, I have completely fallen off the wagon in other areas.

I have been tired, grouchy, and irritated that I can’t get outside. I honestly think the majority of this feeling is due to a lack of fresh air and sunshine. That’s one of the worst things about a winter slump, it’s really hard to beat it until spring rolls around.

Admittedly, I am counting down the days until spring. But in the meantime I’ve got lots of work, and travel, to accomplish and I can’t let my winter slump hold be back.

If you’re feeling the same way, here’s how we can both beat our winter slump.

Get Moving!

It’s hard to want to exercise when it’s cold and dreary outside, but it’s one of the easiest ways to beat a slump. If you encounter a warm-ish day, get out side and take a walk. Otherwise, you can find plenty of ways to exercise at home, even if you don’t have any equipment like a treadmill or elliptical. I’ve got both, but I’ve been using other things to get a workout too.

I like to do a lot of body weight exercises, like air squats, pushups, situps, lunges, and more. I also use my stairs to get some extra cardio in my workouts. I do step ups and sometimes even run up and down my staircase a few times in a row during my workout.

Lay Off The “Good Stuff”

The holidays are usually packed full of foods that are delicious but terrible for you, like chocolate, carbs, caffeine, and alcohol. These are all great treats for once in a while, but after the holidays are done it’s best to get back to fresh fruits and vegetables to avoid a winter slump. You’ll feel better if you lay off that stuff for a while.

Soak Up the Sun

As I mentioned, when there is a warm-ish day with sunshine, I try to get outside for at least a few minutes. But I let the sun do it’s job all day even while I’m working in the house. Opening up the blinds and letting in as much sun as possible will definitely help you beat your winter slump.

Change Your Scenery

This time of year is when I always get an itch to redecorate. When you’re house-bound during winter is a good time to tackle a redecorating project. You don’t always have to spend money to change your scenery either. Last year I moved my furniture around in my living room and even change what room some of my pictures and wall hangings were used in. This gave my space a new look without having to spend money on new decorations.

If none of these work to get you out of your winter slump, don’t fret. Spring is only about 59 days away. 🙂
